ATV & UTV Safety for Spring Field Work

ATVs and UTVs are essential tools on many farms, allowing for quick transportation and efficient work across large areas. However, they are also a leading source of injuries when not used properly.

One of the most common risks is rollover accidents. Uneven terrain, high speeds, and sharp turns can quickly cause a vehicle to tip. These incidents can result in serious injuries, especially if the operator is not wearing protective gear.

Helmets are one of the simplest and most effective safety measures. Even for short trips or familiar routes, wearing a helmet can significantly reduce the risk of head injuries.

Operators should always follow manufacturer guidelines regarding the number of riders. Carrying extra passengers can affect balance and increase the likelihood of a rollover.

Speed should be adjusted based on conditions. Wet fields, slopes, and obstacles require slower, more controlled driving. Taking a few extra seconds to assess terrain can prevent accidents.

Routine maintenance is also key. Regularly inspect tires, brakes, and steering components to ensure safe operation.

ATVs and UTVs are powerful machines, not toys. Treating them with respect and using them responsibly helps keep everyone on the farm safe.
